Philosophy: We at The Hudson School believe that basic science studies are important for all students to take. All students should and can study science whether they become scientists or not. A good science education creates better citizens, who can be more productively involved in developing and supporting better societies. Good science promotes critical thinking, fact-based decision making, being open to criticism (peer review), honesty, attention to detail, and hard work. In our science classes, we look at science from many angles: we write thorough reports on hands-on experiments; we focus on how science connects to society at large; we include a component of history with many topics; we arrange time for student presentations; we encourage cooperation and the active use of resources available to students; we focus on practical applications of basic science, and we encourage questioning.
